Millennium Veterinary practice, Braintree
Dermot, is a 23-year old gelding diagnosed with Pastern Leucocytoclastic vasculitis (PLV). In last year, he had multiple treatments including dexamethasone injections, oral antibiotics, oral prednisolone, topical steroid/antibiotics, topical tacrolimus ointment, topical antibacterial/antifungal shampooing and UV light avoidance.
Blood test was normal and impression cytology of crusts showed large number of bacteria (suspect secondary Staphylococcus infection).
All treatment was stopped except for the oral prednisolone (anti-inflammatory dose) was continued and 6 treatments of phobia was given a week apart. In between the treatments, the leg was washed with antibacterial shampoo and E45 cream was applied.
The response was remarkable and shows that phovia is an effective treatment for a refractory case of pastern leucocytoclastic vasculitis.
